Thare Machi
Thare Machi supports basic education for women and girls in India and Africa using modern technology.

A DVD has been developed which can be used by anybody, is in the user’s own language, and addresses such issues as reducing the rapid spread of HIV and AIDS. A donation was made to enable translation of lessons on DVDs in English for use in India and Sri Lanka.

Merlin
Merlin is the only specialist UK agency which responds worldwide with vital healthcare and medical relief for vulnerable people caught up in natural disasters, conflict, disease and health system collapse. We made a donation of £25,000 a year for three years and further donations of £100,000 towards drought relief in East Africa and £50,000 to the Java Earthquake Appeal.

Peace Direct
Peace Direct focuses on grassroots peace-building in conflict areas. They enable civil society peace-building by identifying, funding and supporting local peace entrepreneurs.

Save the Children – Indonesian earthquake
A donation was made to the Java Earthquake Appeal.

We supported the Royal Academy of Art, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Opera House Trust, the National Theatre, Sadler’s Wells and the Almeida Theatre.

Medical

DebRA
DebRA UK is the national charity working on behalf of people with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), providing patient support and medical research.

Prostate Project
The Prostate Project is an appeal to aid prostate cancer awareness, detection and treatment at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, St Luke’s Cancer Centre and Frimley Park Hospital, and clinical research at the University of Surrey.

We completed the second of five years of funding, donating an additional £150,000.

Richard House Children’s Hospice
Richard House Children’s Hospice received £100,000 as our Annual Charity for 2006/7. The hospice provides respite and end-of-life care for children and young people between birth and 19 years of age who are not expected to live into adulthood.

    The launch event ‘Boss in the Box’ raised over £240,000. Our people took part in various volunteering and fundraising activities throughout the year, bringing the total raised to over £360,000. These included:
  • Visits by our people to the hospice
  • A group of our people gardening in the hospice grounds
  • A quiz night organised by our employees
  • A number of our employees working for a day in a Richard House Charity Shop
  • A ‘curryoke‘ night organised by our staff
  • Employee volunteering at various Richard House functions

We are continuing to support the success of our engagement with Richard House and will be funding them at £20,000 a year for the next two years.

Other

ELBA Legacy 2020
We continued our annual commitment to ELBA (East London Business Alliance) and also donated £20,000 of seed funding to support their ‘Legacy 2020’, set up to engage businesses in helping regenerate areas of East London up to the Olympic Games and beyond.

Lord Mayor’s Appeal
A donation was made to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal 2007. The beneficiaries of this Year’s Appeal are Voluntary Services Overseas, Mansion House Scholarship Scheme, The Guild of Educators and King Edward’s School, Witley.

St Paul’s Cathedral
A donation of £50,000 was made towards the renewal of the organ at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Ordinary 2 Extraordinary
O2e was formed to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children while also helping ordinary people achieve the extraordinary in the sporting arena. This year’s UK beneficiaries were DebRA, Make a Wish Foundation and Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
