Sponsorship
Our sponsorship focuses on literature and sport, which align with our core corporate values and our business proposition of innovation and excellence. Here is a brief overview of our sponsorship activities:
The Man Booker Prize
The Man Booker Prize promotes great fiction by rewarding the best novel
of the year written by a citizen of the Commonwealth or the Republic
of Ireland. The winner receives £50,000. We have sponsored the Man Booker
Prize since 2002, and agreed a five year extension in November 2006.
The new agreement, with a commitment of £1 million a year, covers sponsorship
of both the Man Booker Prize and the Man Booker International Prize.
The Man Booker International Prize
In June 2004, Man Group plc, in partnership with the Booker Foundation,
launched the Man Booker International Prize. The prize seeks to recognise
a living author who has contributed significantly to world literature,
and to highlight the author’s continuing creativity and development
on a global scale. The winner receives £60,000. The prize is awarded
every two years to a living author who either writes in English or whose
work is generally available in an English translation.
Saracens
In 2004, Man Group plc announced a major three-year club sponsorship
agreement with Saracens, one of England’s top Premiership rugby clubs.
We have recently announced a new deal which will see us continue as
the main club sponsor for a further three years until 2010.
We also support the Saracens Foundation, a charity which aims to enhance the lives of young people through sport, physical activity and health promoting activities and the Saracens Academy which helps talented young rugby players to reach their full potential.
The Man Hong Kong International
Literary Festival
In 2005, Man Investments cemented its ongoing commitment to the Festival
with the signing of a three-year title sponsorship.
The Man Asian Literary Prize
In 2006, Man Group plc and the Hong Kong Literary Festival Ltd launched
the Man Asian Literary Prize – a major new literary award designed to
recognise the work of Asian writers and bring them to the attention
of the world literary community. The award seeks entries from Asian
writers for works yet to be published in English. Entries will be submitted
in English, and the prize will bring US$10,000 to the winning author.
England Hockey
In 2006, Man Group plc agreed the £500,000 sponsorship of England Hockey
over six years in the run up to the 2012 Olympics. Man Group will sponsor
the new England Hockey Junior Programmes, a key part of the sport’s
new Single System. The main activities will be regional tournaments
and performance camps for both boys and girls under 17.
Lacrosse
Man Group plc agreed to sponsor Team England in the Warrior 2007 ILF
World Indoor Lacrosse Championships which took place in Halifax, Canada
in May 2007.
