Our achievements this year
-
Key achievements this year include:
- Light sensors placed throughout our London offices

We have also made a significant investment in a combined heat and power (‘CHP’) facility at our Man London offices, at a cost of over $2.4 million.
It first became apparent in 2006 that power at our London HQ was not
going to keep up with our expansion, so, after extensive research, we
installed two on-site 500 kW gas-fired tri-generation CHP generators,
two 250 kW absorption chillers and ancillary equipment, enabling us
to produce 500 kW of power as well as chilled water to cool our IT and
office space. Tri-generation CHP puts usually wasted by-product heat
to work, increasing overall fuel efficiency by over 75%, as well as
avoiding transmission and distribution losses. Our overall programme
is being facilitated with the help of charity Global Action Plan using
the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) endorsed methodology.
In January 2007, Man Group plc was ranked ninth on CNBC European Business
magazine’s first-ever published list of the Global Top 50 Carbon Pioneers
and ranked first among asset management companies. The list was decided
on the basis of the degree to which typically larger companies had taken
a courageous or ground-breaking stance on climate change during the
past decade or had raced to prominence on the basis of a low-carbon
entrepreneurial opportunity. Richard Lofthouse, CNBC European Business
editor said: “This list is about who is trying to solve climate change
and who is not. I will go out of my way to celebrate, encourage and
cite the brave individuals who are making efforts and taking risks.”
Man Group welcomed this recognition and looks forward to continue taking
bold steps towards a collective solution to mitigating climate change.
