Graduate questions

Who are you looking for?

We are looking for individuals that have a genuine passion for financial services, plus a clear idea why they want to work specifically in alternative investments. A consistent and impressive academic background is also required. We expect our graduates to be ambitious, entrepreneurial, strong communicators and team-players. Acting with integrity is also crucial to Man.

How many graduate positions do you have?

We tend to have up to 15 graduate positions each year. You can search our current opportunities to review all open positions.

What offices do you actively recruit for?

We actively recruit graduates and postgraduates into our London, Chicago and Swiss offices.

Do you offer internships?

In the UK they tend to be 8 - 10 weeks long, and in Switzerland they can be up to 6 months in duration. Please see the internship section of our site for further details.

Can I apply to more than one area?

If possible, we ask you to decide on your preferred programme by investigating the type of job you would like to do before you apply. To assist with your career research, we recommend you read carefully the overviews of the business units and the programme descriptions.

Do I need to have studied a relevant degree?

The majority of our vacancies welcome graduates from all degree disciplines, however there are some exceptions. Please see the graduate programmes section for the specific requirements in each area.

When will you be visiting my campus?

We are most actively on campus in the autumn term. Please visit our events page to find out when we will be at your university campus.

If you do not come to my campus will my application still be considered?

Of course! We're only a relatively small organisation, therefore can only visit a finite number of locations. However, applications are considered equally from all universities.

When should I apply?

In general our vacancies open in September for the following year's intake. Due to high levels of competition, early application is recommended!

How should applicants prepare for interviews? What should they be reading?

Do your research! Why do you want to work for an alternative investment manager? What do you understand about the hedge fund business? It's all about preparation.

Ensure you keep up-to-date on what is going on in the markets. Think about what key factors have shaped the economy over the past 12 months, and expect technical questions!

Useful readings on general hedge fund news are "Hedge Fund Manager Week" and publications such as Absolute Return (which focuses on U.S. single-manager hedge funds), Investhedge (which focuses on FoHFs), Eurohedge and Asiahedge (which focus on Europe and Asia respectively).
