AHL is part of Man Investments and one of the largest managed futures style hedge funds.  AHL has a long history of profitably trading global financial and commodity markets using model-based, purely systematic approaches and currently manages investments of over US$20B. The department undertakes a diverse range of activities including model-based prediction, portfolio construction, risk management and trade execution analysis. AHL employees are based in London, Oxford and Hong Kong.

Chief Economist [3296]

This newly created role will involve providing strategic input into the AHL investment, research and risk management process. The Chief Economist will give an insight into the state and development of the global economy and how it relates to the financial markets that our strategies operate within. They will also improve the profile of AHL amongst the media, and economists in both business and academia.

Responsibilities

  • Provide AHL’s investment committee with medium and long term macro views to influence strategic decisions.
  • Liaise with the AHL risk management team to come up with potential scenarios, and effects on asset prices and correlations, given the current global economic situation and short term macro views.
  • Work with AHL research team to incorporate academic theories and cutting edge research into trading strategy development. 
  • Present to key clients, and to industry conferences; provide interviews and comments to the media on behalf of AHL for significant economic events, and issues relating to the hedge fund industry. 

Requirements

  • Education: Phd in Economics or related subject (or exceptional masters degree with highly relevant experience) plus considerable experience in academia or the financial industry.
  • Economics and Financial Market Knowledge:  Should be an acknowledged expert in macroeconomics and its effect on financial markets.
  • Communication: High level ability and significant track record of communicating technical information to non specialists, ideally with media and client presentation experience.
  • Ability to understand and frame problems and solutions in an analytical way.
