It was the ambitious growth plans that attracted me to Man. I was interested in the Hedge Fund Business and, knowing that Man is a big player in this area, I joined the graduate programme in October 2007.

I started as an Analyst in the Hedge fund ventures team, looking closely at start-up funds and discussing my findings with the rest of team. It was great to see that my work was producing results early on and that clients were investing in our products through my analysis.

From there, I joined Product Structuring for the second placement of my 18 month graduate programme. There I worked with lots of different departments to prepare proposals for investors, gathering all the information they need to make decisions about our products. It was hard work but I learnt so much - from my presentation and communication skills to understanding more about the bigger picture at Man and how hedge funds operate.

My last rotation was with the Relative Value team within the Hedge Fund Research department. The work was similar to what I did at Hedge Fund Ventures but the focus was on seasoned Relative Value funds instead of early stage hedge funds.

During the programme I earned the CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) qualification. Man have been very supportive with this - they've given me study leave to prepare for exams and have also run ‘knowledge sessions' so I can keep up to date with the industry.

After the programme I joined Portfolio Management as a Structured Product Analyst. I wanted to stay with Man because the informal environment is really supportive and there's a great level of challenge involved in the role to keep us on our toes!

But most of all, I feel I'm learning a lot and know I'll have good prospects to grow with a company that's really going places.
